Water Conservation

For ages, we refused to consider water as a fast-dwindling commodity. It is no brainer that if we rank the natural resources in terms of our need to exist on the planet, water would only be second to oxygen. Yet, we are incognizant of its importance and pay no heed to the need for preservation and conservation of water, just because, we are blessed with the apparently incessant supply of it, which, so far, bore no cost on us individually.

There is no such thing as free water in the world. Due to our laxity, we have almost reached on the verge of an alarming situation where we need to be whipped to come to terms with the conservation of all our natural resources, and more so for water.

We have now, somehow, started feeling the pinch that we need to do something to combat this very problem of scarcity of water. Alas; it is too late to compensate for the loss we have already incurred. Water is significantly moving away from its regeneration and replenishment scope, hence it needs to be conserved. We need to make some attempts to create awareness on water conservation and more importantly, water harvesting.

Can we conserve water for us and our successors? YES, by doing small and simple things!

We often let the water flow down the drain when we are not using it. We have to stop this sheer water abuse by educating people around us and in our family about avoiding water wastage. On average, we drain 20 gallons of water in the toilet; much of it is not put to any use. A staggering 15% to 40% of the water our used to wash clothes every day, this can be recycled for car and vehicle wash.

One can save 15 gallons of water by reducing a 20 minutes shower to 10 minutes one. We need to create awareness to save bathing and toilet water. Turn off the water while brushing, shaving or even soaping.

1000 gallons of water wasted every year due to household leaks. Save this water, this can be done by repairing your leaky faucets and water tanks.

The frequency washing your car, bike or vehicle can be regulated to save water usage, also use recycled water here. Water your plants early morning and late evening, so the water gets retained in the soil for a longer time.

We all have heard the childhood story of an intelligent crow and how it raised the water level by dropping pebbles inside the vessel to reach out to the water. The days are not far that the entire mankind will become a scarecrow trying to bring the water level up, if not already. So let's push that day to infinity and act sensibly towards water conservation, to leave some water for our blessed forthcoming generations, our children!
